I’m a gluten-free vegan. You might think I eat salad and tofu all day long. Not true! I do love an interesting salad and tofu has lots of possibilities, but being vegan AND gluten-free doesn’t mean meals should be boring. From quinoa to ajvar, to raw foods, my adventure as a gluten-free vegan began in March, 2011 and I have no plans to stop the journey.
I’m glad you’re here and I hope you’ll find some recipes and insights that are useful for your path to healthier eating, whether you’re a gluten-free vegan or just learning about different ways to eat.
I want to help others discover this wonderful, energizing and kind way of eating for a better you and a better world.

Hi Janie- I love your blog and would love to sign up to get email notifications of new posts… did I just miss it or do you not subscribe to it?
Hmmm, it appears the email sign-up has disappeared. Let me check my plug-in and thanks for reading and letting me know!
I too am gluten-free and vegan and enjoy your site. I cannot find your email subscription list though. I would love to sign up when it comes back up again if you can let me know. Thank you!
Hi April,
It should be right below the list of posts under Meta. It says Register. Let me know if you can’t find it and thanks for your comment!
Hi Janie,
I am really enjoying your blog and recipes, and thought you should know. Three weeks ago I was diagnosed with a moderate dairy allergy and gluten, wheat, eggs, beef, and yeast sensitivities. I cut all of them that day, and it’s been a real adventure learning about the gluten-free & vegan world at the same time. Although I can still eat meat, we live abroad right now (China) and the meat can be sketchy stuff, so I avoid it in most cases. It’s added a whole new difficulty level by living in a foreign country as food labels are impossible for me to read. I make 95% of meals from whole, raw ingredients. Dining out is a nightmare!
I am feeling SO much better, but want to know what you would advise for a butter substitute. In China, I can’t get Earth Balance- but I can get olive oil and coconut. Are these my only options? Some people say I should be able to eat ghee, but I’m afraid to risk it. I’m really missing baked goods like scones and croissants. Although I have GF flour and egg replacer- all recipes still call for cold butter! Let me know what you think! Thanks so much again!
I think you’d do well with coconut oil when baking. You can also try banana or pureed fruit for a fat-free substitute. Olive oil would work fine too and sesame oil would be really flavorful in some recipes. Dining out is a nightmare for me too. Even in the US. We were on vacation last week and ended up just eating chips, avocados and bananas from the grocery for our meal in one city. But cooking can be a fun adventure when you start to think about all the things you can have and feeling better is priceless!
